Implications |
There are controversial discussions about the effects of
phthalate on the environment and on the health of
humans. Phthalates are anticipated to be a human
carcinogen including the risk of damaging the genotype.
Humans absorb phthalates through food, air and their
skin. Children are particularly endangered. If they take
toys or baby articles containing phthalates to their
mouth, they will assimilate plasticizers to the body.
Phthalates in blood bags and hoses can get directly into
the bloodstream. Also phthalates in food packing and
food can cause plasticizers in the human body.
Phthalate were detected in the environment as well, e.g.
in the ground water. DEHP, but most of all BBP and DBP
are categorized as hazardous to the environment. One
percentage of phthalate used for the production ends up
in the environment. Elution and abrasion evokes the
release.
